Access Guide for Mount Cottage

Introduction

The cottage is situated on the upper edge of a very small market town with a population of about 1800 people. It is on the edge of an area of outstanding natural beauty. It is about 23 miles south of Shrewsbury and 19 miles northwest of Ludlow. It is about 60 miles from the Mid Wales coast. The cottage sleeps 4 with two upstairs bedrooms. The bathroom with toilet is downstairs and there is an additional toilet.

The cottage welcomes dogs and has a completely secure small garden. There is a solid stone, lockable shed with freezer, also suitable for dogs to dry off, and  for storage of bicycles

There is free wi-fi.

The cottage is not suitable for wheelchair users.

Pre-Arrival

  • For full details of how to reach us please see the directions section of the website. Craven Arms is the nearest railway station - 12 miles away. There is a taxi service but it would have to be arranged in advance. Tel: Arms Cars: 07969 693112, or Bishops Castle Taxis: 07551 825931, or Alan's Cab: 07970 683126. There is an hourly bus service from Shrewsbury, The bus stop in Bishops Castle is at the bottom of Bull Lane, just two minutes walk from the cottage.

  • The cottage is on a hill, but there is a pavement on the road outside the cottage.

  • The local co-op is just 5 minutes walk from the cottage. Both Tesco and Sainsbury deliver so an order could be put through in advance.

Key Collection, Welcome and Car Parking

  • Arrangements for the key to the cottage are given when receipt for the deposit is sent. The owner lives on site and someone would be there to give any help or advice needed.

  • Its own garage is just below the cottage with access to it through a side door and the main door. There is parking outside the garage off the road for another car if necessary, or if people want to leave it there rather than put the car in the garage.

  • The whole area is well lit at night by motion sensor lights and there is a street lamp on the road.

  • There are no parking restrictions at all in Bishops Castle.

Entrance to Property

  • There are 4 steps up to the cottage paved area from the side door of the garage. Access is also through the main garage entrance and round to the front door on the pavement. The gateway to the cottage is in the owners tarmac driveway and there are 4 steps down to the front door. There is no level access to the cottage.

  • Clear door opening width is: 790 mm/ 31ins. There is a motion sensor light over the door.

  • The floor covering inside the entrance is heavy duty matting.

Halls, Stairs, Landings, Passageways

  • The hall, stairs and landings are well lit with spots and ceiling lights. The hall and stairs are carpeted.

  • The stair way starts with 6 stairs with rail on the left. There is a small landing and the stairs divide with 4 stairs up to one bedroom and 4 stairs to the other bedroom with handrail in the middle.

  • There are two steps down to a bathroom on the right of the short passage which is 800mm/31.5ins wide. The passageway is laminated. This passageway leads to the living area through a door. 750mm/29.5ins wide. The whole living area is level with no steps.

Sitting Room/Lounge

  • The sitting room is at the far end of the living area. It has a two seater sofa and two easy chairs. There is a large coffee table and 3 occasional tables. There is a standard lamp and a table lamp.

  • Furniture can be moved.

  • There is a television and separate DVD player. There is a selection of DVDs and books and a radio/CD player.

  • There is adjustable good overhead lighting.

  • Flooring is laminate with rugs.

Dining Room

  • The dining area is to the left of the door as you come into the living area. There is a round dining table with 5 chairs, no arms (more available on request) Table and chairs are moveable. Height of table from floor to lowest point of table is 690mm/2.26ft and it is 700mm/2.29ft high. There is free space only on one side of the table. There is a dresser on the right hand wall.

  • There is ceiling lighting above the table.

  • Flooring is laminate.

Kitchen

  • The kitchen is immediate ahead of you and to the right as you come into the living area.

  • The oven is underneath the hob and the door of the oven drops down. It has an integrated grill. The hob is electric. The hob, sink, microwave and all work surfaces are 900mm/3ft above the floor. The fridge is under the work top. There are wall cupboards above the work surface with lowest shelf at 62mm/0.20ft and the highest shelf at 111mm/0.36ft There are also cupboards below the work surface. There is a small dishwasher to the right of the sink and a washing machine to the left of the sink. There are 5 drawers.

  • There is a toaster and cordless electric kettle.

  • Lighting is with ceiling spots.

  • Flooring is laminate

  • A separate freezer is in the garage.

Bedrooms and Sleeping Areas

  • The two bedrooms are upstairs. The door width into both rooms is 710mm. The one to the right has twin beds with a dressing table between the beds. Both have bedside tables the other side. There is fitted hanging space and shelves. The height to the top of the mattress from the floor is 660mm/2ft. There is a ceiling light and lamps beside both beds, plus a lamp on the dressing table. There is a mattress underneath one of the beds should extra bedding be needed for any reason. The room is carpeted.

  • The double bedroom with 4'6" bed is to the left. This bedroom also has a dressing table, two bedside tables and fitted wardrobe with shelves. The height of the double bed from the floor is 520 mm./1.7ft. There is a ceiling light, two bedside lights and a lamp on the dressing table. The room is carpeted.

  • The duvets on the beds are down, but non-allergic ones are in the cupboard. The pillows are non-allergic.

  • There are torches in both rooms and a hairdryer in the double bedroom.

Bathrooms, Shower-rooms and Toilets

 

  • The bathroom is downstairs and is two steps down from the hall. The door width is 700mm/2.9ft. The shower is over the bath. The bath has a grab rail. The taps are mixer. The height of the WC from floor to seat is 420mm. The washbasin is 810mm/2.5ft from the floor with a blocked in pedestal. There are two taps and one spout.

  • There is a ceiling light and light above the basin.

  • The bathroom is white with a light brown tiled floor.

  • There is a towel rail and hooks for additional towels.

  • There is a cupboard for toiletries

Garden

  • The small garden, enclosed by a stone wall, is paved with shrubs and ground cover planting. It is 7.5 metres x 8 metres/23ft x 26ft.

  • It is on two levels with 3 steps between. The width of these steps is 1metre/3ft. There are also 4 staggered steps up from the garage below and 4 from the main driveway above.

  • There is a wooden bench with a wooden table, and a table and 4 chairs for eating outside.

  • The garden is south facing and very sheltered.

  • There is a large stone shed for storage of bikes or for drying dogs.

Additional Information

  • Dogs are welcome. There is a hose pipe in the garage and inside there are extra dog towels and a water bowl. There is also information on all local dog friendly walks. The garden is completely secure.

  • The doctors surgery is 5 minutes down the road. The nearest A&E is in Shrewsbury.

  • There is information on what to do and see in the area and ordinance survey maps for walkers.

  • There is free Wi Fi and a good mobile phone signal for Vodafone and EE, but O2 does not work at all in Bishops Castle.
